The phone service is nothing like a PC plug and hope service. This is simply plug and go. Sorted.
Plug a little box into your broadband router. Plug a normal phone - corded or cordless - into the little box. Switch on. And the little box does all the technical bit. Lights flash; it ‘phones home’ and makes the connection; configures whatever it needs to configure. When the lights stop flashing the phone is ready to use. So simple even a manager can use it.
The part we really like is that we can get a phone number for any area code in the UK. Does not matter where we are based - none of the restrictions with a certain other service.
And we can get a cheap fax line. Yes some people still use fax.
And we can get virtual numbers that ring our main number. We can have a branch office without the branch. Great for advertising local numbers for less than the cost of having another phone line.
And we can get a line within a few days. No waiting weeks. No huge upfront installation charge.
And when you move office, just unplug the little box and your phone; go to your new office; plug the little box into the router in your new office; plug in the phone; wait for the lights to stop flashing. And now your phone is back in business. And so are you.
That reminds me of a really cool feature. And it will answer a question you have.
What happens to my incoming calls when my broadband stops working?
They automatically divert to a phone number you specify. There is a feature called Network Availability. You enter a phone number to divert calls to in the event that the little box loses connection - broadband failure, power cut ... Can be a mobile or a landline. We advise our Home Office customers to set it to a mobile - if your broadband goes wrong it may also be that your home phone goes wrong as well.
Talking of mobiles, those calls are not included in the free calls you get with the service. But we think the rate to call mobiles is good value. And you get cheap calls overseas as well.
To configure the services you use a web browser and sign in to a web site. From there you can see call logs, cost of calls you have made, print your monthly invoice ... And we think it is simple to use.
Like that other phone service you get billed monthly for charges. You do not have to put credit on your account as with so many broadband phone services.
We don't think so.
The basic UK service is just £5.99 per month for a phone number in any area. And that includes free phone calls to UK landlines (there are some restrictions, but not many). And a UK virtual number is £2.99 per month.
Make lots of calls overseas? There are a range of packages which include free and cheap calls to overseas numbers.
If you have customers overseas you can get a virtual number in USA, Canada, Mexico, France, Spain and Ireland so they can phone local and do not have to phone a UK number to speak with you. They start from £2.99 per month.
What a great way to improve service to your US customers. Get a US telephone number.
We really like this service. It does all that we want and more. And it does not break the bank doing it.
